Our Predominantly Grass Fed Beef and Lamb is sourced from Farm Assured Certified producers and suppliers. Our Pork and Poultry are sourced within the EU and all our purchasing is done by our industry specialist with over 30 years experience in the meat industry. Our Farm Assured Beef and Lamb comes from some of the finest farms here in Wales or the Uk and our predomiantly Grass Fed Lamb is sourced mainly from exceptional farm assured British Lamb producers. All livestock is FARM ASSURED and meets our exceptionally high standards. Consistency and quality is the key to our objectives so our adoption and adjustment of an industry standard phrase "Grass Fed" to "Predomiantly Grass Fed" Beef and Lamb means we are confident in the incredible quality of our meats without misleading you, our customer. We are confident that the vast majority of Beef and Lamb sourced within the UK is Grass Fed. One need only look at the abundance of green grass and know that farmers will put animals out to pasture rather than feed costly grains and cereals. Although some schemes require a supplemental feed due to animal welfare standards ie a lack of certain trace elements in pasture for example copper which can lead to a condition called staggers in cattle.
The farms producing our Predominantly Grass Fed Beef & Lamb are:
Registered holdings in the Wales, England, Scotland & Ireland;
Registered under a recognised Farm Assurance scheme.
All our beef and lamb is reared and finished on UK farms. From this the Premium Predominantly Grass Fed Beef & Lamb slogan derives.
Our Predominantly Grass Fed Beef and Lamb
All Paleo Nutrition Wales’ livestock is reared in line with agreed high standards of husbandry and welfare, providing assurance of each individual animal’s safety.
The exceptional eating quality of Paleo Nutrion Wales Beef and Lamb is due to the defined production process including a mainly grass-fed diet, specified carcase parameters and post-slaughter maturation.
The Paleo Nutrition Wales cattle must be born and raised entirely on farms within the United Kingdom. They are fed on a predomiantly grass-based diet with natural supplemental feeds added when necessary; to aid the cattle’s natural growth process and its welbeing. This feeding system is universally used in the production of the cattle throughout the UK.
An intensive feeding system is NOT used and animals are NOT fed on waste products or growth promoters.
The livestock are out to grass during the summer and during the winter months cattle will be fed on silage, hay or other types of forage such as fodder beet or kale. Due to the high rainfall and soil structure in some areas of the United Kingdom some cattle are housed and fed on silage or hay to shelter them from the harsh wintery conditions
The Paleo Nutrition Wales cattle are finished for a minimum of 60 days. The majority of stock start to finish naturally themselves and their age or weight varies as there are tremendous breed differences. The farmer or processor will determine when the animal is deemed fit for slaughter by either visual or physical assessment. The cattle are assessed on conformation and fat level and when the farmer believes this to be at the optimum then the cattle are slaughtered.
Paleo Nutrition Wales’ believes, coupled with our research that Predominantly Grass Fed Beef improves the chemical composition and organoleptic qualities of the meat. Paleo Nutrition Wales’ believes that our Beef is more consistently tender, giving an excellent eating experience. The natural marbling of Paleo Nutrition Wales’ Beef with intra-muscular fatty tissues adds flavour and succulence. The distinct colour of the fat can be from white to yellow. The meat colour will vary but the maturation will result in the meat being a darker and more vibrant red.
We pride ourselves on the traceability of each individual animal keeping to our “Paddock to Plate” ethos. Understanding the animal’s diet and lifestyle is a key factor to ensuring that we provide nothing but the best Beef available.
Animal welfare - high quality grass and other home-grown feeds are used with no additives or hormones, to allow normal development
Traceability - beef can be traced from the plate back to the individual farm
Quality - by taking time to mature the meat and great care during its processing we retain the exceptional qualities of the meat.
Consistency - well controlled methods means every cut is of the highest quality possible
Low food miles
The value of all this is borne out by the mouth-watering flavour which is second to none. Our meat is not shipped 5000+ miles to land on your door step.
Our Chicken and Turkey is carefully sourced from Only Grade “A” quality poultry, which is produced to the highest industry welfare standards.
Our Chicken is sourced from the "Leading" producers in the EU, where the highest standards of welfare and BIO-Security are enshrined into the production process. The birds are reared in an open range facility, meaning they are in large open housing with tremendous space to move around with feed and water always available. The birds are monitored by experienced personnel on a daily basis to ensure the health status of the flock is maintained. This whole process is monitored by experienced Veterianarians. Open Range Chickens are reared for meat and are allowed access to an outdoor range for at least 8 hours each day. These Chickens are classes as Open Range and farmers systems use slower-growing breeds of chicken to improve animal welfare, meaning they reach slaughter weight at 16 weeks of age rather than 5-6 weeks of age in standard rearing systems. These standards are rigorously monitored throughout the whole process by Food Standards Agency inspectors and veterinarians in licensed establishments.
Farmers have known for generations that if you look after the environment, the environment will look after you. And that's the secret behind centuries of sustainable farming practices that have made Wales for example a producer of high quality lamb.
With high standards of animal husbandry and pasture land management, family run farms have helped preserve the unique landscape of the UK for generations.
The meats we source all come from licensed abattoirs, whereby Food Standards Agency (FSA) inspectors and veterinarians have a legal responsibility is to collect random samples of tissue from carcasses to be sent to Government laboratories for analysis. This programme is an ongoing measure which is carried out on a day to day basis.
The Residue In Meat (RIM) sampling programme is a preventative measure to eliminate meat contaminated with veterinary drugs or other substances i.e. growth promoters and hormones, entering the food chain. With this knowledge, we are confident that the UK meat industry is one of the safest in the world with regards to substance misuse.
When you buy meat for you and your family you want to know where it came from. You want to know how it was reared and in what country it was produced.
This means that every animal must be fully traceable from gate to plate or field to butcher's shop/supermarket.
Every abattoir and cutting plant is inspected by the government and this is carried out annually.
Our red meat must comply with all government regulatory requirements and best practice guidelines.
